Good afternoon, Sheldon ISD families,

We hope everyone has stayed warm and safe. We wanted to provide you with an update to our operations. Sheldon ISD will be open tomorrow, Thursday, January 23. We understand that weather conditions and circumstances from the storm may vary across the area. Please do what is best for your family. Our doors will be open tomorrow, and we look forward to seeing our students and staff. Thank you for your continued support and partnership with our school district.

The Board of Trustees recently held its first-ever Sheldon Spotlight Awards, recognizing the exceptional achievements of approximately 160 students from across the school district. This new tradition highlights the school’s commitment to acknowledging student excellence and inspiring continued success.

Sheldon ISD sees another first in SISD history as two student artworks are being featured in the TAEA (Texas Art Education Association) Youth Art Month State Art Show. C.E. King High School sophomore Axel Cruz Pineda and Sheldon Early Childhood Academy pre-kindergarten student Juilette Griffin presented artwork in competition with districts from across Texas.

King High School Pantherettes Colonel Dezerae Williams has been selected as a member of the Texas Dance Educators Association (TDEA) All-State Dance Team. She represented Sheldon ISD at the TDEA Convention in Houston. Dezerae was one of 300 students selected from a statewide process for this honor, and she was selected as a featured dancer during their performance.  Dezerae is a junior at King High School and is a part of the Early College High School.

Four fine arts musicians from CE King high school made it to all-state Area. Two from choir and two from band.

Arielle Monuma-Antoine, a member of the C.E. King High School Choir will perform with the Texas All-State Treble Choir in San Antonio, Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2025 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention. A special congratulations to C.E. King High School band students oboe player, senior Santiago Cruz, tuba player, sophomore Kadyn Henry and tenor, sophomore Nicholas Montelongo for participating in the Area audition round which is the final step in the All-State selection process.

Sheldon ISD announces Cory Laxen as C.E. King High School’s Head Football Coach. Coach Laxen brings 15 years of coaching experience and is beginning his third year with the Panthers. Prior to coming to King High School, Coach Laxen spent 10 years at Galena Park ISD’s North Shore High School where he was a part of four state championships (2015, 2018, 2019 & 2021) as the Offensive Line Coach and Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. Many students have earned scholarships thanks to his extensive background in helping advance athletes to the collegiate level.
